Pomegranates have been cultivated for over 4,000 years. Our word pomegranate dates back to around 750 B.C. and comes from the Latin "Punicum malum" meaning "Phoenician apple."
Every pomegranate is composed of exactly 840 seeds, each surrounded by a sac of sweet-tart juice contained by a thin skin. The seeds are compacted in a layer resembling honeycomb around the core. The inner membranes and rind are not generally eaten due to high tannic acid content, but they are useful as a skin wash.
Pomegranates are very high in antioxidants, and also are rich in vitamins A, C and E and folic acid. For a menopausal woman, pomegranate can relief from depressive moods and a lower risk of osteoporosis, breast cancer and heart disease.
Pomegranate can be stored for a month in a cool, dry area or refrigerated up to two months.
Making this pomegranate infused water is ultra-simple. It has just four ingredients and is so refreshing after a big meal.
- 4 sprigs fresh mint
- 1 cup pomegranate seeds 200 g
- 1 Honeystick
- 4 cups water* 960 mL
Add some fresh mint to a pitcher. Gently muddle it with the end of a wooden spoon to release some of those delicious minty oils. Then add pomegranate seeds, honey, and water. Place in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours to let the flavours infuse.
Honey is good for brain, because it helps enhancing focus, brain function and sharpens memory.
