5 Longest Ski Runs In The World

As any keen skier/snowboarder will know, debating about "Where is the best run in the world"

is never ending story.

We're not attempting to resolve the question once and for all - but here are 5 of our favourites, guaranteed to keep you dreaming.

1. Sarenne , Alpe d'Huez, France

The Sarennes ski run, the longest in Europe at 16km, joins the Pic Blanc to the Sarenne Gorge. It’s punishing 2,000m vertical drop of black status slope requires staggering endurance as it takes about an hour and a half to complete. Pic Blanc (3330m), the highest point of the ski area, offers breathtaking views of the Alps including Mont Blanc, Mont Cervin and the Meije The Sarenne piste stretches from Pic Blanc at 3,330 metres to Alpe d'Huez at 1,860m.

2. Cervinia, Breuil-Cervinia, Italy

Cervinia is an alpine resort in the Aosta Valley region of northwest Italy. It sits on the Italian side of the famous Matterhorn, and is one of only two remaining Italian areas to offer summer skiing. From its lofty height of 3,883 metres, take an epic 20-kilometre descent down red runs to Valtournenche at 1,524 metres, Cervinia's lift-linked neighbour. Alternatively, from the Klein Matterhorn, you can ski the 13-kilometre descent down into Zermatt.

3. Zermatt, Switzerland

Zermatt lies at the southern end of the Matter Valley and is a car-free village. Is completely surrounded by the high mountains among which Monte Rosa (specifically its tallest peak, named Dufourspitze), Switzerland's highest peak at 4,634 metres. The longest ski run extends over a distance of 21 km and 2,279 vertical metres from the Klein Matterhorn at 3820 metres down to Zermatt at 1620 metres.

4. Alagna, Italy

Alagna is a small village high in the Valsesiaalpine valley in the province of Vercelli,Piedmont, Italy .. Thanks of the amazing difference in height form the top of the ridges (Monte Rosa is 4634m) to the bottom of the valley (Alagna itself is only at 1191m) you have a huge slope to cover. Alagna has the crown for the longest continuously skiable run (8km).

5. Vallée Blanche, Chamonix , France

From the summit of the Aiguille du Midi (3812m) down to Chamonix ’s town centre is an off-piste route of 22km with a vertical descent of 2700m. It’s an unmarked, unmaintained and unpatrolled high mountain off-piste ski itinerary on a deeply crevassed glacier, the Mer de Glace which offers some of the most spectacular scenery that the Mont Blanc range has to offer. The views are stunning and the high mountain environment provides a real sensation of wilderness.
