Smoothies make ideal post-exercise treats.Eating the right foods after a ride is essential to boost energy-giving carbohydrate stores and help build and repair hard working muscles.
A study in Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise found that drinking skim milk postworkout promotes muscle gain and fat loss. Yogurt is a source of carbohydrates, which helps to restore depleted energy reserves and provide you with a steady stream of energy. Honey does double duty after a workout, said researchers from the University of Memphis. It helps athletes to maintain optimal blood sugar levels, and it aids in muscle recovery post-training. Sweet!
 
Ingredients: 
1 medium banana
1 cup skim milk
1/2 cup plain lowfat yogurt

Method 
Peel and cut the banana into chunks, then put them in a blender with the milk, yogurt and honey. Blend until smooth.
 
Smoothies are great fun and perfect for race recovery. Enjoy.
